Do you have questions about the Youth Ministry Program at the United Methodist Church of Whitefish Bay? This is where you can find answers to the questions we hear most often. Don't see what you're looking for? Don't hesitate to contact the Director of Youth Ministries, Melissa Swanson! Question: Can I bring friends who do not go to our church to youth ministry events? Answer: ABSOLUTELY...please do! Everyone is welcome here. You do not have to be a church member (or a member of any church for that matter) to take part in any youth ministry events, activities, and/or classes. Question: What do you do at youth group? Answer: That depends on the week! Once a month we have a "game night." On these nights, we simply have fellowship, play games, spend time getting to know each other better, and just have a good time together. Once a month we also do some type of service project, where we are actively doing something to be the hands and feet of Christ. We've done things like washed windows of cars parked around the neighborhood, collected canned goods for food drives, made brown bag lunches for the Milwaukee Rescue Mission, and more. The other times of the month we call "content nights." We have small group discussions on faith-related topics, study passages of the Bible, and learn more about what it means to follow Jesus.
Question: What is "Christians and Romans?" Answer: Christians and Romans is a game that we play at Middle School Late Nights and High School Lock-Ins. We hide a cross in the church, and the students have to try to find the cross without getting caught. The only catch is that all the lights are turned off. It's kind of like capture the flag. Students are the Christians, and the adult leaders are the Romans. The game symbolizes how the early Christians were pursued by the Romans, and how dangerous it was to be a Christian in those days! It's an incredibly fun game that everyone loves!
Question: If I'm in 7th or 8th grade, do I have to go through Confirmation? Answer: No. Confirmation is an OPTIONAL two-year program at our church. At the end of Confirmation, students have the opportunity to take their membership vows and become offical members of the congregation. The two years of classes should prepare students by teaching them the foundations of our faith and what it means to be a church member. Students are welcome to join the church at a later time if they are not ready for Confirmation. There are separate membership classes being offered throughout the year that are open to students as well as adults. |
